Monkey Shoulder whisky is a product of William Grant & Sons, one of the oldest Scottish whisky-making families that have been producing the finest Scotch whiskies since 1887. In the early 2000s, the team at William Grants recognised an opportunity to introduce the world of Scotch to a much larger audience by promoting cocktails and mixed drinks as a new way to enjoy Scotch. To achieve this, they chose an epic blend of Scotch malt whiskies to create the perfect whisky for mixing. This blend was called batch 27, which created a new category of Scotch - a blend of malts that no one else had ever released before. Instead of naming it batch 27, they chose to honour their whisky heritage and named it Monkey Shoulder in tribute to the traditional malt whisky making process, where some malt men would develop a strain injury which they nicknamed 'monkey shoulder.' Today, Monkey Shoulder is a unique and popular Scotch whisky that has shaken up the whisky world in a good way.
