Nikka Whisky is a Japanese whisky brand founded by Masataka Taketsuru, who is known as the father of Japanese whisky. Masataka Taketsuru, who studied whisky making in Scotland, founded Nikka Whisky in 1934, after working for Suntory. The first Nikka whisky was produced in Yoichi, Hokkaido, where the environment is similar to Scotland, and the distillery is still in operation today. The name "Nikka" comes from a combination of the founder's last name and the Japanese word for "sunrise," which represents a new beginning.
