With a shared passion for restoring the art of craft distilling in Ireland, a group of friends hailing from Wicklow and Dublin came together to establish the Glendalough Distillery. In centuries past, Ireland was home to over 200 licensed distilleries, as well as countless unlicensed ones, producing a wide variety of poitín, whiskey, gin, and even absinthe. However, in recent times, this number has dwindled down to a mere handful.
The friends were inspired to take action after many lively conversations about the lack of craft distilleries in the birthplace of distilling. Eventually, they decided to leave their day jobs behind, take a chance on something more meaningful, and head into the mountains (much like the man on the bottle, St Kevin) to build a craft distillery near their favourite spot in Glendalough.
